GOD AS A HOLY SPIRIT

  WHO IS GOD

We Are Created in His Image

God as the Holy Spirit: Also as the Breath of Life/Power—this is just an analogy, similar to how you have a spirit enclosed within your body.

To establish a foundation: The Spirit of God is not confined. If He were, He would not be omnipresent. Just as we have seen God as the Father—who has the ability to think about all creation—you, as a human, cannot do the same because you have limitations, and even Satan has limitations. Only God is limitless. Remember, we can describe God in a way that transcends human understanding. He is one God, yet He reveals Himself in three ways, forming His perfect completeness.

As we have already seen, God is described as the Father (wisdom and understanding) and as the Son (the Word made flesh).
In this article, we will explore how the Bible reveals God as the Holy Spirit—the third and final part of His revelation—manifesting as the breath of life and the spiritual power that sustains all creation. Remember, breath itself is not the Holy Spirit but rather originates from Him as the source of life. The Holy Spirit is not confined; He is everywhere, unlike your spirit, which is bound within your body. Just as God as the Father, the Word, and the Spirit are not limited, our human minds cannot fully comprehend Him. God can sustain all creation as the Father (wisdom), and as the Spirit, He gives life and power to all living things.

The Role of the Holy Spirit in Creation and Healing

For something to happen, it does not only require planning (God as the Father). Once you conceive an idea in your mind, you begin to speak it (the Word). However, it will still not come to pass unless a certain power is applied (the Spirit). For example, if you want to pick up an object from a certain place, you need the strength to lift it.

Look at this:

The Holy Spirit in Creation and Life-Giving Power

Psalms 33:6 (KJV):
“By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.”

Both the Word and the breath (Spirit) of God were involved in creation, demonstrating the role of the Holy Spirit in shaping and sustaining the universe.

Psalms 104:30 (KJV):
“Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.”

The Holy Spirit brings forth life and new creation when sent according to God’s will.

The Holy Spirit as the Source of Breath and Power

In Genesis 2:7 (KJV), we read:
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

God gave life to man by breathing into his nostrils, signifying the Holy Spirit as the giver of both physical and spiritual life. Even spiritual strength that fosters a relationship with God requires the involvement of the Holy Spirit.

Job 33:4 (KJV):
“The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.”

The Holy Spirit is the source of creation and life, demonstrating the unique spiritual power of God.

The Holy Spirit as the Giver of Eternal Life

John 3:5-6 (KJV):
“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

Jesus emphasized that being born again is the work of the Holy Spirit, granting eternal life to those who believe.

The Holy Spirit as the Power of God

Acts 1:8 (KJV):
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

The Holy Spirit empowers believers to boldly testify and carry out divine works.

The Holy Spirit in the Life of Jesus Christ

Luke 1:35 (KJV):
“And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”

Jesus was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, showing the Spirit’s role in the divine plan of salvation.

The Holy Spirit as a Teacher and Guide

John 14:26 (KJV):
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

The Holy Spirit is God’s power, teaching and reminding believers of Christ’s teachings.

The Holy Spirit is the breath/power of God that gives life and guides His creation. Recognizing the power and work of the Holy Spirit helps us understand our relationship with God and the authority we have in Christ.

Satan is not limitless; otherwise, he would have prevented Jesus Christ from being crucified, knowing that His sacrifice would restore humanity’s righteousness.

In the next article, we will examine why Jesus Christ suffered, died, and resurrected as the means of humanity’s salvation.

Thus, God is the Word, the Spirit, and the Source—outside of this, there is no God.
