GOD AS A WORD

  WHO IS GOD

You Are an Image of God

We have already looked at God as the Father in terms of wisdom and understanding. Now, let us consider God as the Word, the second aspect of God, which is His Word. You can see an example of this in how you express your thoughts through words.

The Bible uses the term “Word” to describe God, particularly in the context of revealing His thoughts to humanity. In this video, we will learn how the scriptures use the term “Word” to represent God as part of His divine revelation. This is the second essential aspect that brought us Jesus Christ as the Word—meaning, the Word as a part of God took on flesh and was born as the Son.

Part 2: God as the Word

John 1:1

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

This confirms that the Word is an essential part of God’s nature. A word expresses inner thoughts either through speech or writing. In the case of God, the Word is Jesus Christ.

Colossians 1:16

“For by Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.”

This affirms that Jesus Christ, who is the Word of God, was fully involved in the creation of everything in heaven and on earth.

John 1:3

“Through Him all things were made; without Him, nothing was made that has been made.”

This further emphasizes that Jesus Christ, the Word of God, was the instrument through which all creation came into being. Without the Word (Jesus Christ), nothing was created.

1 Corinthians 8:6

“Yet for us, there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we exist; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we exist.”

This scripture confirms that Jesus Christ is the means through which God created all things, revealing His role as the Word of God and His unique participation in creation.

Hebrews 1:2

“But in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.”

This affirms that God used Jesus Christ to create the universe, showing His unique role as the Word of God and His participation in creation.

The Word as the Source of Life

John 1:14

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Here, the Word takes on flesh through Jesus Christ. Just as thoughts come from the mind and become words, so God revealed Himself through Christ, who is the living Word.

This can be compared to how steam (a gaseous state) transforms into water (a liquid state). Though the state changes, the essence remains the same. Jesus Christ took on human form, but His nature as the Word of God did not change.

Jesus Christ was never originally a human being but was the Word of God. Consider how you are—you have a mouth that speaks words. However, unlike humans, God has no limits. You have understanding, you have words, and you have breath (spirit). But in God, these aspects are unlimited and omnipresent: He can think about the entire universe, give life to all creation, and speak even through nature itself.

Revelation 19:13

“He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God.”

Jesus Christ is identified as the Word of God, clearly demonstrating His unique relationship with divine revelation.

Hebrews 4:12

“For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

This shows that the Word has spiritual power, distinguishing between thoughts and intentions, just as the human mind uses words to express plans.

Psalm 107:20

“He sent out His word and healed them; He rescued them from the grave.”

This demonstrates the power of God’s Word in bringing healing and salvation.

How God Uses the Word to Create and Lead

Genesis 1:3

“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”

God used the Word to create the universe. This illustrates the power of God’s words, which come from His eternal thoughts and become reality.

Isaiah 55:11

“So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

God’s Word has the power to fulfill His purpose. Just as human thoughts gain power when expressed through words, so God’s Word has boundless power.

In the context of redemption, whenever the Bible speaks about the Word of God, it always points to the promise of salvation through Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. This is different from other scriptures or teachings that only address morality. A true prophet or apostle must show how the Word (Christ) fulfills the plan of redemption.

You can read the following scriptures to further understand the Word of God: Isaiah 40:8, Jeremiah 1:12, Proverbs 30:5, Matthew 24:35, 2 Timothy 3:16, 1 Peter 1:25, and Psalm 119:105.

Conclusion

When we call God the Word, we acknowledge Him as the full revelation of His thoughts through Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches us that our words have power, but God’s Word has supreme authority over both our thoughts and the entire universe.

Ephesians 6:17

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

This understanding of God as the Word confirms that our thoughts, words, and actions reflect His image, but His Word holds the ultimate spiritual and physical authority.

Let us continue to explore the nature of these aspects: Father (wisdom/understanding), Son (Word), and Holy Spirit (breath/life). Remember, our understanding, words, and life are limited within our bodies, but God has no limits. His wisdom, His Word, and His life are beyond measure.

Jeremiah 23:24

“Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him?” declares the Lord. “Do I not fill heaven and earth?”

Psalm 90:2

“Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
